Debris projects only. We refer construction, remodel, roofing and cleanout debris roll-offs, not recurring garbage service. Inside Abilene city limits the City handles regular trash, with short-term construction debris as its stated exception.

Debris roll-offs for Clyde projects

Clyde is an incorporated town in northwestern Callahan County, on Interstate 20 and Farm Road 604, on the Callahan Divide between the Brazos and Colorado river watersheds at an elevation of about 1,980 feet, per the Handbook of Texas. The key difference from the other towns around Abilene is the county line: Clyde is in Callahan County, not Taylor County. The Taylor County pages we found, including the Taylor County Environmental Department, speak only to Taylor County, and we did not research Callahan County. We therefore make no claim about county-level permits for a Clyde address.

What the city’s own cleanup would not take

The clearest local fact we found about Clyde debris is from a KTXS report on the city-wide cleanup held at the City Yard on Stephens Street in May 2025. Residents could bring unwanted items with a water bill showing a valid Clyde address. The list of items not accepted is the reason this page exists: roofing shingles, concrete, brick, rock, dirt, paint and other hazardous chemicals, batteries, TVs, remodeling building material and auto parts. In other words, the one organized free option for residents refused exactly the material that comes out of a re-roof or a remodel. That is a cleanup event, not a standing service, so the schedule can change; the point is that remodeling debris is a different category from ordinary household overflow, and it needs its own container.

Heavy loads: shingles, rock and dirt

Because shingles, concrete, brick, rock and dirt were all on the refused list, think about weight before you pick a size. Pros commonly set weight limits on these loads, and a container that looks half empty can be at its limit with masonry. If you are breaking out a driveway apron or a patio, tell the pro the material and thickness. Our size guide explains how to match container size to weight, and the cost guide explains why heavy loads can price differently.

Storm history and roofing work

The Handbook entry records tornadoes striking Clyde in 1895, 1938 (14 deaths), 1950 (5 deaths) and 1989, and local droughts, including 1949 to 1957. We mention it only because severe weather is part of why roofing and repair projects cluster in this region; it is not a claim about any current storm. If a roofer is replacing your roof after weather damage, ask whether the container is in their quote before you rent a second one. See roofing debris dumpsters for how weight and permits fit together.

A growing town with older and newer housing

Texas Almanac figures quoted in the Handbook put Clyde at 2,562 people in 1980, 3,345 in 2000, 3,713 in 2010 and 3,811 in 2020. Modest, steady growth means a mix of older homes that get remodeled and newer lots where builders need a container for framing scrap and packaging. Both are construction debris, and either way the request goes the same route: send the form with your project, timing and where the container will sit, and a local independent pro replies.

City of Abilene rules do not apply here, but ask anyway

Abilene’s sole-collector rule, described on its Solid Waste page, applies inside Abilene city limits only. Clyde has its own city government. We could not load the City of Clyde website or its code (the site blocked our automated request), so we have not verified whether Clyde requires a permit for a roll-off or uses a franchised garbage hauler. Ask the pro, and check with Clyde City Hall for the placement rules at your address.

Placement tips for a Clyde lot

Keep the container on a hard surface when you can, leave a clear approach for the truck, and look up for wires and limbs. Putting plywood under the container protects a driveway. If the container must sit on a street or alley, get the town’s answer first, since we could not confirm a rule.
